The awards were conferred by the CRF Institute, an independent international economic research organisation that identifies top performers in the fields of personnel management and employee opportunity. A multi-faceted analysis and auditing process evaluates human resource strategy and employment conditions with particular regard to the areas of primary and secondary benefits, training and advancement, career opportunities, corporate culture and innovation. The assessment found Sirona to be a leading, highly innovative employer – and confirmed the company's top ranking.

The Top Arbeitgeber 2013 seal of approval from the CRF is not the first award that Sirona has attracted in recognition of outstanding personnel management: the company received a similar employer distinction in 2009, and scooped the TOP JOB award for the best managed employer in the German SME sector in 2003. Sirona was also rated gold by the Best of Top 100 study back in 2001, confirming the company as the most innovative of the small and medium-sized enterprises in Germany.
