Digital optical impressions with the new CEREC AC acquisition center are as simple as taking a snapshot. Entire quadrants can be acquired in less than one minute. The CEREC AC expands the spectrum of clinical indications and sets new standards in terms of precision, speed and ease of use.
Bensheim, 6 January 2009. Sirona, one of the world’s leading dental equipment manufacturers, has unveiled a completely new digital image acquisition center for its CAD/CAM-based all-ceramic restoration system. The new CEREC AC® will replace the existing CEREC 3 acquisition unit with immediate effect. The new unit is easy to operate and – compared with other competing systems – delivers unprecedented levels of precision.
The cornerstone of the new digital acquisition center is the CEREC Bluecam®, which boasts an automatic image capture system, an anti-shake function, as well as an extensive depth of field. The camera is capable of digitizing quadrants in less than one minute. The image quality is exceptionally high even in the peripheral areas.
The CEREC AC lays the foundations for the “impression-free” dental office. The digital impressions and the resultant virtual 3D models are so precise that dentists can dispense completely with conventional impression-taking – also in connection with complex restorations. This significantly expands the spectrum of applications. For example, dentists are now in a position to create temporary chairside bridges with up to four units. In addition, the CEREC streamlines collaboration with external dental labs. The design data can be uploaded conveniently to the new CEREC Connect web portal. As a result dentists now have access to a larger range of materials and can cater for additional clinical indications with laboratory restoration precision.
“In combination with the CEREC MC XL milling center, the intuitive and user-friendly CEREC 3D software and CEREC Connect the new CEREC AC represents a major step forward in computerized dentistry,” says Sirona’s CEO Jost Fischer. “This new product is further evidence of Sirona’s innovative abilities and reinforces our leadership in the dental CAD/CAM market.”
Dr Wiedhahn, Dentist from Bucholz, Germany and CEREC AC test-user:
“In the automatic capture mode the new CEREC Bluecam is capable of scanning large areas of the jaw very efficiently. The short wave-length blue light emitted by the LED results in significantly enhanced precision and design security.
The new CEREC AC acquisition center boasts an attractive, modern design. The optional uninterrupted power supply, the ultra-precise and fast CEREC Bluecam and the new CEREC 3D software combine to create a highly effective package. CEREC restorations are simpler, more predictable, efficient and precise than ever before.”
The product benefits in detail
- Speed, efficiency and user-friendly
The blue light emitted by the CEREC Bluecam illuminates the treatment site perfectly. The parallel light beam and the extensive depth of field allow the user to capture near inaccessible areas of the oral cavity – areas that are beyond the scope of cameras with divergent light beams. The CEREC AC user does not have to maintain a prescribed clearance. Instead he or she can position the Bluecam directly on the tooth with the aid of the CEREC camera support.
The automatic image capture system operates so quickly and efficiently that entire quadrants can be acquired in just a few seconds. This saves valuable time. The user-friendly features of the CEREC AC permit the initial imaging steps prior to the preparation to be delegated to an assistant. This in turn fosters a smooth and efficient workflow in the dental practice.
- High precision for top-quality restorations
The precise acquisition of the preparation and the adjacent teeth is a precondition for perfect CAD/CAM restorations. Augmented by the sophisticated CEREC AC image processing software, the CEREC Bluecam delivers an unparalleled degree of accuracy in comparison with previous optical impression systems.
Camera shake has been virtually eliminated. The built-in shake detection system ensures that the exposure is triggered only when the camera is absolutely motionless. The CEREC 3D software automatically analyzes each image pixel by pixel. Only the best results are used when superimposing together multiple images. This maximizes precision and minimizes data volumes.
- Extended spectrum of indications
The high-precision imaging capabilities of the CEREC AC offer numerous advantages. The images are distortion-free, even at the periphery. As a result the system can superimpose together an unlimited number of images and hence compute virtual 3D models of entire quadrants. Irrespective of the specific indication, the dentist can offer the patient the comfort and convenience of an optical impression. The CEREC system caters not only for single-tooth restorations, but also for fully anatomical temporary bridges with up to four units. These bridges can be designed, milled and inserted during a single appointment.
- Direct link with dental laboratories
Manageable data volumes provide the basis for quick and simple communication with external dental laboratories. Via CEREC Connect dentists are in a position to offer their patients large and complex restorations without the need for conventional impression, which many patients find unpleasant. This also rules out many of the potential errors inherent in conventional impression taking. The key benefits of CEREC Connect lie in enhanced comfort for patients, reduced costs, and shorter turnaround times.
- CEREC AC streamlines the practice workflow
In response to the constraints on space in many dental offices Sirona has reduced the footprint of the acquisition center to 36 x 42 centimeters. Due to its low center of gravity the CEREC AC is easy to transport. Thanks to the optional uninterrupted power supply, CEREC AC remains operational for approximately six minutes. This allows the acquisition center to be moved easily from room to room. As soon as the first milling process has been initiated the dentist can begin taking the next optical impression (subject to the availability of a wireless link with the milling unit). Once again, CEREC AC streamlines the practice workflow and saves valuable time.
